Whether you are protecting your home or business, security cameras can be a great way to make sure your property and items are protected. These cameras can be very small so that potential criminals don't even know they are there. But not all security cameras are the same, and each type has its own different features. Before you invest in buying some cameras, take a look at the different options that are available.

Bullet/Dome Cameras

Bullet or dome cameras are housed inside a clear dome and hung from the ceiling. These cameras are protected from the elements and are a good choice for outdoor cameras. In most cases, these types of cameras are stationary, meaning they only give a view from one angle. When choosing bullet cameras, there should be enough installed to see from different views.

Covert Cameras

These cameras are made to be unnoticed. Covert cameras are usually smaller cameras that can be placed inside of something else, such as an alarm clock or even a teddy bear. Covert cameras are fixed, meaning they don't move around, so they should be placed in an area and pointed towards whatever view you want them to see. These types of cameras are good choices for small offices or nurseries.

PTZ Cameras

The term PTZ stands for pan, tilt, zoom. These cameras are highly maneuverable, and the user can control them remotely using a joystick. The camera can pan from side to side, tilt up or down, and zoom in on any object. This type of camera is excellent for facilities that need to monitor a lot of movement. They can also be pre-programmed to pan, tilt, and zoom at regular intervals just to get a good idea of what is happening all around.

IP or Network Cameras

An IP or network camera uses a server to show footage on a computer screen. They can be either wireless or hard wired, depending on the make and model. They are fairly easy to install, and a good option for those who travel a lot and want to be able to see what is going on remotely from anywhere. IP cameras are great for small business owners who work from home and want to keep an eye on employees, or for homeowners who travel frequently and want to be able to see what is going on at any given time.

Infrared Cameras

An infrared camera offers the user the ability to see images at night. This is a great option for people who own a business with a lot of evening activity such as a tow yard or a night club. The picture that a quality infrared camera produces is surprisingly clear, and makes seeing night time movement a lot easier.
