Installing security cameras around your commercial property will help to catch anyone doing something that they shouldn't and prevent those unscrupulous individuals from even attempting to steal, break in or damage your property. Here, you will find some information that can assist you with deciding what to do with the security cameras around your commercial property.

To Hide or Not to Hide

Keep in mind that you don't want every camera to be hidden from being seen easily from the ground below. Having some visible cameras can deter those who are considering doing something to your property, but they also make it easy for those potential criminals to know where to avoid to prevent their images from being captured on video.

You need a good balance of hidden and not hidden cameras. Position a couple cameras on each side of the building that are seen along with one that isn't. You want people to know that the property is being surveilled, but you don't want them to know exactly where they need to go to avoid the cameras.

Camouflage Your Cameras

If the cameras are already installed, you can create a little tube to keep them from being seen quite so easily without disrupting the view from the camera.

Supply List

  • Primer and paint that matches the exterior of the building
  • 200-grit sandpaper
  • Drill and bits
  • PVC Pipe Cutter or hack saw
  • PVC Piping that is a little larger than the camera diameter

The PVC pipe needs to be cut to a length slightly longer than the camera. You want about an inch extra to hide the wiring coming from the camera.

Measure the diameter of the mounting hardware on the camera. Drill a hole on the pipe to line up with the bracket.

Sand the piping smooth and apply a coat of primer.

Allow the primer to dry and apply at least two coats of paint.

Slide the piping over the camera and reinstall the camera.

Check all of the camera angles to be sure you are getting clear images of the areas that need surveillance.
